Nice... a good reason to start!

I've been saying I was going to start a blog for months (about 6 actually) & I even set this one up a while ago... I just never did anything with it.  (So many other mama's with more going on than me, keep up with theirs, so I have no excuse.)

I just came across a good reason to start one though.  http://blog.wrapsodybaby.com/?p=125  Wrapsody: The Wraparound Baby Carrier is looking for good stories about how mama's came to wear their babies.  I don't know that I really have a story, but...........

When my daughter was born (8 years ago) I must have read about Maya Wrap ring slings somewhere.  I ordered one online & I remember trying to mess with it for what felt like hours, in front of the full length mirror in my bedroom.  I felt like she was squished & uncomfortable & I don't recall her loving it either.  So back it went & I never used one again.

While we were looking through things for our baby registry last year, Joe said he wanted a front carrier.  (I don't know which one it was... it was at Babies R Us)  I said I didn't like them & I just carried my babies in my arms (and they're held a LOT!  My oldest never even crawled, he was on my hip so much.)

So I don't know where my obsession love for baby carriers came in.  Somewhere during my pregnancy, I must have read about them?  I did read a lot...  and I was spending a lot of time reading things cloth diaper & attachment parenting-ish.. so I'm sure that's where it happened.  I ordered a Moby Wrap first & was worried because it just barely fit around my still pregnant belly!  But the idea of it was pretty awesome.  I have daycare kids & a house that makes me crazy when it's not at least a little kept up (and I seem to be the only keeper upper!)  To have two hands and still be able to carry baby all day??  Yes, please.  I watched about a bazillion you tube videos from then until baby day.

Brandon was probably 2 weeks old before I tried him in it.  I had a c section, so I wasn't doing a whole lot right away anyway.  He snuggled right in & there was a surprising amount of stress taken off right away, just not needing my arms for his only support was huge.  We were both in love :)

Then it started getting hot.  Brandon is a sweaty little guy to begin with & it was getting pretty hot here in NH.  I don't like to feel sticky, especially when I'm like 2 months post partum.  Yuck.  Sooo..  I remembered the Wrapsody Bali Baby Breeze I'd obsessed over for months before he was born.  I joined www.thebabywearer.com & read... LOTS.  That's where I read about ring slings again.  Not knowing which to buy.. I ended up with a Whitman Bali Baby Breeze and a ring sling from http://www.sleepingbaby.net/  They have both been life savers!  I use the ring sling when I want something quick to pop on & I use the wrap when we'll be doing more walking.  Brandon doesn't mind me sitting down when he's in the ring sling, he wakes up if he's in the wrap & I sit.  I've used both to nurse in public & they've both doubled as a blanket.  We went to Maine this summer for vacation & I'm sure I'll add pics as we go & you can see that Brandon may be the whitest baby, ever.  I used our Whitman as a cover for him... it was still stiff enough that it held it's shape & made sort of a tent for him.  Let's see if I can add a pic:

Oh I can!  This blogging thing might be fun!

So...  there's our story of how we came to be babywearers (I say we...  it's pretty much just me right now.. Dad said he liked the Boba I was looking at though...  and my kids are quick to point out other babies in carriers, especially wraps because we don't see it too much here yet.)   I have about 3 on my list of things that I need (some say want... I feel like I need things!) I need a stretchy Wrapsody & Sleeping Baby Productions has a black & white striped sling that I love & I'm still looking at that Boba.  Ahhhh...     :)
